Dome Vision

The Vision: First construct the platform for the initial Dome tent, then assemble the Dome kit, as shown below. Proceed with building four Styrocrete permanent Dome structures to serve as short-term rentals and living quarters for volunteers and resident students. We will be holding workshops periodically throughout the next year where people will join us to learn how to build Styrocrete Domes from the ground up, with earthen floors and poured cement retainer walls, Styrocrete structural walls using steel framing, finished with fiberglass mesh, adobe and lime coatings. The Dome roofs are built with reinforced rebar, coated with farrow cement and adobe finishes. Each unit will be off-grid with water catchment, solar powered, plumbed and offer all the amenities of a modern home.

Workshops: To assist in building these domes, we will be offering workshops to people who want to learn how to build with Styrocrete. The domes will be built by our team and students to then be used as short-term rentals, for WWOOFERS, and WORLDPACKERS volunteers to continue to expand the farm and sell products grown on the farm.

What is Styrocrete? Recycled macerated styrofoam is mixed with concrete to create a high R-value lightweight cement. The mixture is then poured into forms reinforced with steel studs covered with a fiberglass mesh and then either a final coat of stucco is applied and sealed, or a final coat of stucco with a lime wash.
